Design Within Reach (DWR) linked up with Airstream and commissioned longtime Airstream collaborator Chris Deam (International CCD, Signature Series) to pen a holistic design conceived to perfectly telegraph DWR core values – values of authorship and curated authority in design.

To provide maximum enjoyment of the outdoor awning area, the DWR Airstream includes a matched pair of outdoor chairs in natural canvas with natural wood frames, provided by Objekto. Objekto mirrors DWR’s values by passionately pursuing the accessibility of innovative, high quality design. The focus of Objekto is to bring the work of Brazilian designers to Europe and the US.
The Exterior Details
The aluminum exterior of the Airstream DWR travel trailer is instantly distinguished by its front and rear panoramic windows, stainless steel streamline moon wheel discs, signature DWR red accents, and matching custom full-length fabric awning.
Premium Laminates
A tightly managed spectrum of graduated colors is achieved using high-pressure laminates from leading Italian manufacturers LIRI Industrie and Arpa Industriale. In addition, a unique perforated metal by Chemetal is used for dramatic effect.
Engineered Fabrics
New-York based Maharam provides engineered textiles for the dinette seat bolsters and cushions, a layered privacy zone curtain, as well as inner and outer layered window curtains for the panoramic windows. The dominant fabric was conceived by Paul Smith – the prolific British designer. Paul Smith showed his first menswear collection in Paris in 1976 and has since grown into a truly international phenomenon - operating in 35 countries with showrooms in London, Paris, Milan, New York and Tokyo.
The Interior Details
Interior Architecture
The hand-crafted Airstream shell is bright and airy inside – with a fully exposed aluminum interior skin, front and rear panoramic windows, and recessed halogen ceiling lights. The smooth glossy overhead roof lockers are masterfully backlit and glow with the apple green accent color of their internal surfaces. Other touches include custom aluminum window treatments imported from Europe with integrated micro-textured roller blinds, and a premium Elkay pullout faucet. Every DWR unit comes with a comprehensive range of equipment as standard – including a rooftop air conditioner, and a package of electronics including a high quality Sony sound system and TV.
Dramatic Flooring
Flooring provider Lonseal provides a fresh new choice underfoot. The durable and environmentally friendly textured flooring selected for this unit subtly evokes the open grain of oak and the nuance of knot-free quarter sawn plank, in a matte ebony finish.
Luxurious Bedding
Each unit includes a comprehensive
set of Matteo bedding materials. A base of natural cotton sheets and pillowcases is brought to life with a vibrant orange quilted coverlet and contrasting grey tweed decorative pillows. Mathew Lenoci founded Matteo in 1996 to create simple sheets from the most luxurious textiles in the world. Egyptian cotton is woven in Italy and sewed adjacent to the design studio in Los Angeles.

By maverick British designer Tom Dixon, this piece is a bold celebration of linearity
in form – serving as a dramatic visual punctuation mark in the central corridor of the trailer.
